What is this unearthly noise Hep!Collective have conjured? Subaqeous strings shot through with ghostly vocals (and weirdly evocative spoken word) evoke Oliver Coates recording into an answer machine having enjoyed large amounts of early DJ Shadow. There's more than a little of BoC or The Coombe about these little vignettes - wilfully contorted and off beam, they surface like half-remembered CRT transmissions filtered through several fathoms of mulch and tree roots. It's somehow fitting that 'How to Draw a Rabbit' is meditative and warren-like, with no beginning or end. Hearing this fade out is to be shaken awake and delivered back to land and the material world.
